Foreword Speech

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah hiwabarakatuh,

I feel very much privileged to be given an opportunity to write a few words on this blog, created and maintained by the present SUCI Society’s President.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Ammar for his hard work and commitment in taking his time to create a platform for all of us to share our ideas and views. His talent, forte and expertise are commendable in ensuring that we all benefit from the articles and messages posted, including religious matters, on this blog.

It is timely for us to get together and indeed, work hand-in-hand, in undertaking the challenge of upholding the spirit of Islam in our beloved institution, Sunway University College. As the only Islamic society in this institution, we have to ensure that we play our role as the major backbone for the Muslim students in Sunway University College.

Firstly, we must promote peace and brotherhood/sisterhood among the Muslim students here at the University College, in particular among the very own members of SUCI Society. We should work together to encourage and motivate our fellow Muslims to acquire more knowledge of Islam, and to practice Islam as a complete way of life from time to time. We can organize seminars or talks, halaqahs, congregational prayers and other necessary activities where the Muslim students can participate and be part of the said events. It is crucial to organize such events in order to be ‘close’ and ‘visible’ to the Muslim students and InsyaAllah, we can inculcate the sense of belonging to the society which in turn, will help us to maintain a better and stronger relationship among the members and other Muslim students here at Sunway.

Secondly, once the relationship is built, it is easier for us to look after each other. In other words, we will make an attempt to ensure that our Muslim brothers and sisters are not only doing their responsibilities as students of the respective programs here at Sunway, but most importantly, also fulfilling their duties as the ‘Khalifa of Allah’ in this world. Such a responsibility is on us (whether you realize it or not) since we are representing the Muslim community here in Sunway. Simultaneously, we should also look at ourselves or conduct a ‘muhasabah’ from time to time, to see whether we have acted and portrayed ourselves as one of the ‘Khalifa of Allah’ and not only looking for the faults of others and condemning them, and forgetting our very own flaws and shortcomings. As a matter of fact, all of us should take the initiatives to rectify and fix our shortcomings if we are obliged to be a better person for the future….. for our religion, for our nation and for our community.

Thirdly, as the Muslim community in Sunway is not that huge, it is advisable to extend our networking, where we can work and join other relevant NGOs out there. Our dedicated Mr. President may be able to highlight you all on this matter. One of the many reasons for fostering a relationship with other entities is mainly due to the availability of informational and professional activities that may not be offered by SUCI Society here at Sunway (owing to the limitation of expertise, budget/time & space constraints and many more). Thus, by being part of the NGOs, the Muslim students will be able to gain more experience and knowledge of Islam and also, expand their circles of friends and acquaintances, which will be beneficial once they move on to the next stage in life, i.e. when they embark on the career life.

Fourthly, as a student, excellence in studies should be made the highest priority. All Muslim students should persevere and not easily give up when facing any challenges in life, especially relating to studies. Remember your parents’ and families’ hopes and wishes to see you excel in studies and please don’t disappoint them for all the sacrifices, patience and support given throughout these years. And as a Muslim, I’m sure that you would like to be one that make us proud of who you are, not only as a Muslim but a successful Muslim student that can be a role- model to the others.

At this juncture, as an Advisor to the SUCI Society, I would like to express my gratitude to all committee members (EXCO and the General Committee) for their sincere commitment, dedication and tireless efforts. Under the leadership of Mr. Ammar, all of you have shown your great enthusiasm and have put in lots of efforts, without which, it would be impossible for us to hold the fort as it is now. Syukur, Alhamdulillah, I was given an opportunity to work with such a dedicated and responsible group of students – considerate, creative, joyful, resilient and most importantly, knowledgeable and many more positive attributes which I can’t list all down here due to the time constraint..…. Ammar et al, please keep up the good work!!!

Lastly, I wish to take this opportunity to remind all members and all Muslim students to continue supporting and assisting us by means of participating in our future activities. It is time for us to come forward, unite and work together as a team. Without the support from the members and other Muslim students, we would not be able to carry out our activities and fulfill our responsibilities. As well, without your active participation and presence, we will not be able to stand firm today. InsyaAllah, we will try to organize more beneficial activities for the members and the Muslim community at Sunway in the future.

Thanks again for all support and cooperation provided to the SUCI Society, in one-way or another. We may not be able to repay your kindness and goodwill, but InsyaAllah, all of us will be blessed by Allah, and will attain a bigger gain in this life and in the end.

May Allah protect us and bless us with His mercy and guidance, showing us the true path that leads to success and happiness in this and the life hereafter.

Wasalamualaikumwarahmatullah hiwabarakatuh.
